Bandaranaike International Airport is in Katunayake, north of the city—not in Colombo centre. Official taxis exist; touts exist too. A pre-agreed IslandFull host meets you at arrivals with a name board if you ask.

Peak traffic can double the ride. The airport expressway helps. If your hotel is in Negombo, say so—that is the closer beach town, not Colombo.
For a 6 a.m. departure, leave the city with a lot of buffer. Send a return trip as a second stop: hotel → CMB.
